In 2026, America commemorates and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Across the nation, events that encourage celebration, reflection, and commemoration are being encouraged and planned at local and statewide levels. A Joint Resolution of the 87th Texas Legislature, SCR23, signed by Governor Greg Abbott on May 28, 2021, established the Texas America 250 Commission, “to help celebrate the semiquincentennial of the United States.”

“America’s 250th anniversary is about more than reflecting on our past, it’s about honoring the contributions of individuals who built this country, the innovations that put this country on the map and a man on the moon, and imagining what the next 250 years might look like for our children and the generations to come.”

The Texas America250 Commission is an officially recognized State/Territory Partner of America250.org, a nonpartisan, nonpolitical partner of a federal agency. Together, this partnership jointly commemorates American history and culture in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
